Advised by General Kurt von Schleicher, President von Hindenburg dismissed Bruening's cabinet. Reactionary Centre Party member Franz von Papen became chancellor. He formed a conservative cabinet composed of four barons and a count, none of whom had majority support in the Reichstag.
